Drexel University runs three free shuttle routes for students, faculty, and professional staff: the Dragon Route, the Powelton/Spring Garden Route, and the Queen Lane Route. All three connect the University City, Center City, and Queen Lane campuses Monday through Friday, and the Powelton/Spring Garden Route also runs weekends. Board with a tapped DragonCard, and track every bus in real time with the Drexel Transit app, powered by TripShot. Here’s exactly where each route stops, when it runs, and how to ride Penn’s buses free with the same card.

What Are Drexel’s Three Bus Routes?

Drexel’s bus service covers three fixed routes, each named for the streets or campus it serves.

RouteRunsMain stops
Dragon Route (Center City Loop)Mon–Fri only33rd & Market (Nesbitt Hall) to Vine St. at the New College Building (15th-Broad) to 19th & JFK Blvd.
Powelton/Spring Garden RouteMon–Fri 6 a.m.–11 p.m.; Sat–Sun 7:30 a.m.–10 p.m.33rd & Market (Nesbitt Hall) to Dornsife Center (35th/36th & Spring Garden) to Vidas Athletic Complex Field House (42nd & Powelton)
Queen Lane Route (East Falls Loop)Mon–Fri onlyContinuous loop between Vine St. at 15th St. (New College Building) and Queen Lane Campus

None of the three routes runs on university holidays or during Winter Break. Ride is free and unlimited for Drexel students, faculty, and professional staff. Just present a DragonCard when boarding.

Dragon Route (Center City Loop) Schedule

The Dragon Route links University City to Center City Philadelphia, running Monday through Friday from 33rd and Market Streets at Nesbitt Hall to Vine Street at the New College Building (between 15th and Broad) before finishing at a bus zone on the northeast corner of 19th Street and JFK Boulevard. It does not operate on weekends, holidays, or during Winter Break. A multi-year PennDOT bridge project over the Schuylkill River is currently adding delays to this route near Market Street. See the service-changes section below before you plan a tight connection.

Powelton/Spring Garden Route Schedule

This is the only Drexel route that runs seven days a week: Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. It travels from 33rd and Market Streets (Nesbitt Hall) to the Dornsife Center for Neighborhood Partnerships at 35th/36th and Spring Garden, then continues to the Vidas Athletic Complex Field House at 42nd and Powelton. The route also runs one express trip Monday through Friday at 5:45 a.m., from 33rd and Ludlow Streets directly to the Vidas Athletic Complex. This is useful if you have an early class or practice and don’t need the Spring Garden stops. Like the other routes, it does not run on university holidays or during Winter Break.

Queen Lane Route (East Falls Loop) Schedule

The Queen Lane Route is an express shuttle that runs Monday through Friday in a continuous loop between Vine Street at 15th Street (outside the New College Building) and the Queen Lane Campus in East Falls, home to Drexel’s health-related programs. It doesn’t operate on weekends, holidays, or during Winter Break. Because it’s a loop rather than a fixed round trip, you can board at either end and ride in either direction.

How Do I Board With My DragonCard?

Tap your DragonCard on the blue card reader at the front of the bus every time you board, even though the ride itself is free. The reader logs route-utilization data that Drexel’s transportation office uses to spot overcrowded runs and adjust service. Drivers can only pick up and drop off at designated stops, so plan around the stop list above rather than flagging a bus mid-block.

Can I Track My Shuttle in Real Time?

Yes. Download Drexel Transit, powered by TripShot, from the App Store or Google Play, enter “Drexel” as the service name, then tap “Log in with Drexel Connect” and sign in with your regular DrexelOne credentials. The app shows live shuttle locations, estimated arrival times, and service alerts for all three routes. A handy extra: you can track Penn’s buses in the same app by switching the service name to “Penn.” No separate login is required.

Can Drexel Students Ride Penn’s Buses Too?

Yes. Drexel has a reciprocity agreement with the University of Pennsylvania that lets Drexel students, faculty, and professional staff ride Penn’s fixed-route campus bus service (East, West, and North routes) free of charge with a valid DragonCard. The agreement runs both ways: Penn students and staff can ride Drexel’s buses free with a PennCard. Penn’s service generally covers as far west as 48th and Woodland and as far east as 20th and South Streets. One exception either way: this reciprocity does not extend to Penn’s separate campus Escort Service, and Drexel’s van-based transportation assistance isn’t open to Penn riders.

What Service Changes Should I Know About Right Now?

Two active construction projects are affecting Drexel’s bus network in 2026. PennDOT’s rehabilitation of the Market Street bridges over the Schuylkill River has closed lanes near the river, adding delays and detours to the Dragon Route specifically. Separately, SEPTA’s improvements at the 34th Street subway station are bringing traffic control and lane restrictions to Market Street near that station from winter 2026 through spring 2027. Build extra time into any Dragon Route trip during this window, and check the TripShot app for real-time delays before you head to a stop.

Why Take the Bus Instead of Driving or Walking?

Drexel’s campuses are spread across University City, Center City, and East Falls, too far to comfortably walk between classes, and parking near any of the three is limited and priced for a full day, not a single trip. The shuttle system covers all three legs for free, which is also why it’s a heavier draw on ridership than most peer-university systems the same size. If your trip falls outside campus hours or your stop isn’t on one of the three routes, comparing bus versus train options in Philadelphia is worth a look before you book a rideshare.

Is SEPTA Free for Drexel Students Too?

No. Drexel’s own three shuttle routes are free, but SEPTA, Philadelphia’s separate public transit system, is not. Full-time Drexel students get a 15 percent discount on monthly SEPTA TransPasses and TrailPasses through the SEPTA ComPass discount program, purchased through DrexelOne. Passes must be bought by the 15th of the month before the one you need, limited to one pass per month, and are loaded onto a SEPTA Key card. This discount is separate from the DragonCard-based shuttle and Penn bus systems described above.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Drexel bus service actually free?

Yes. All three routes are free and unlimited for Drexel students, faculty, and professional staff. You still need to tap your DragonCard on the reader when boarding. That’s for ridership tracking, not payment.

Does any Drexel bus run on weekends?

Only the Powelton/Spring Garden Route runs weekends, Saturday and Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. The Dragon Route and Queen Lane Route operate Monday through Friday only.

Do the buses run during Winter Break or holidays?

No. All three routes suspend service on university holidays and during Winter Break. Check Drexel’s official bus service schedules page for the exact break dates each term.

Can I ride Drexel’s buses with a Penn ID instead of a DragonCard?

Yes. Penn students, faculty, and staff can ride Drexel’s shuttle buses free with a valid PennCard, under the same reciprocity agreement that lets Drexel riders use Penn’s buses with a DragonCard.

Is SEPTA free for Drexel students?

No. SEPTA is a separate system from Drexel’s free shuttle buses. Full-time students get a 15 percent discount on monthly SEPTA TransPasses and TrailPasses through the DrexelOne ComPass program, not a free pass.
